Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Group

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team includes Teor (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

First, the team understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and escaped to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each character has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and cautions that it is a nasty location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the team access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor vowed a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the northern region in search of Casimir.

What’s Next?

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table will be absent next week, leaving the rest of the cast members to form the Seekers and Planners parties.

Audiences can look forward to finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
