Energy infrastructure under attack in the region
Ukraine's energy systems have come under escalating strikes in recent weeks

During the night, Moscow's missile and drone strikes have resulted in blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

Nine people were wounded while residents in the city's east were plunged into darkness and encountered problems to water supplies, per reports from city officials.

At the same time, a minor was fatally injured in a distinct Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia area in the southern area, as reported by local officials.

Moscow has escalated strikes on power infrastructure over the last fortnight, while Ukrainian leadership has requested "substantial measures" from partner nations to exert influence on Moscow.

"The necessity is not window dressing but decisive action - from the America, the EU and the Group of Seven - in supplying protection systems and enforcing restrictions," mentioned in a social media post.

He said that hundreds of unmanned aircraft and more than 30 projectiles targeted energy facilities, describing such attacks as "premeditated" and against "essential services" as winter approaches.

Energy officials said Russia was "launching a major assault" and maintenance teams were striving to fix the damage.

A series of attacks struck energy infrastructure and civilian homes in the capital.

Five out of the nine people injured in the attacks on the city have been transported for medical care, per statements from local officials.

Government officials told the media that Moscow was deliberately attempting to destroy the country's energy grid, with assaults already impacting energy systems.

Officials stated utility staff and officials were bracing for further attacks.
